In a food processor or blender, combine the chickpeas, cocoa powder, maple syrup or honey, vanilla extract, and salt.
Blend the ingredients together until they form a smooth and creamy spread, scraping down the sides of the processor or blender as needed (see the notes).
Taste the spread and adjust the sweetness and saltiness as needed. Transfer the spread to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Notes
If your blender is not strong you may need to blend the mass in several pulses and add some spoons of non-dairy milk or water to make the paste smooth.
