What are Healthy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies made of?

  • Oat flour and blended oats.

I separate these two ingredients as they give their texture and made their role in the cookies’ taste. In this recipe, I recommend using both – oat flour, as it has the consistency of regular flour, but it’s much healthier and blended oats, as they add pieces of oats to the cookies, and the cookies’ texture is more crispy. If you want your cookies to taste softer, use only oat flour. By the way, the soluble fiber in oats is beta-glucan, which has been researched to help slow digestion, increase satiety, and suppress appetite.

  • Egg.

Eggs provide structure to the dough by acting as a binder. They help the dough to hold together and prevent it from spreading too much during baking.

  • Honey or maple syrup.

As this recipe provides cookies without brown sugar, we use honey or maple syrup as a natural sweetener.

  • Cinnamon and Vanilla extract.

These are optional ingredients, but I recommend adding them as cinnamon adds a spicy aroma, and vanilla gives a sweet aroma to the cookies. Together they make a balanced flavor.

  • Peanut butter.

We use it instead of regular butter or oil. It perfectly suits the chocolate chips and oats and gives a nutty flavor. If you don’t like it, you can replace it with coconut oil, for example.

  • Chocolate chips.

What can Chocolate Chip Cookie be without Chocolate Chip? none! I use no-sugar chocolate chips to reduce sugar and make the cookies healthier.
