Can I cook frozen shrimp

Yes, you can cook frozen shrimp. For this Lemon Garlic Shrimp Pasta recipe, I recommend thawing the frozen shrimp before cooking to ensure even cooking and prevent the shrimp from becoming tough or rubbery. To thaw frozen shrimp, you can place it in the refrigerator overnight, or you can run it under cold water for a few minutes. After thawing, the shrimp can be cooked along with the other ingredients to make the pasta dish.

Is it better to cook pasta with raw or cooked shrimp

It is better to cook pasta with raw shrimp, rather than cooked shrimp. Raw shrimp will cook evenly and quickly in the pan with the other ingredients, producing perfectly cooked and tender shrimp. If you add pre-cooked shrimp to the pasta dish, it may become tough or rubbery if overcooked, resulting in an uneven flavor distribution throughout the dish. Raw shrimp also allows you to season the dish to your liking and ensures that the shrimp will absorb all of the flavors of the dish as it cooks. By the way, shrimp is contain not only protein but also such red pigment as astaxanthin, it may help protect against inflammation by preventing free radicals from damaging your cells.

How many shrimp per person with pasta

It depends on your taste, however, to make the pasta dish well balanced I recommend preparing about 80-100g of raw shrimp per person, in the amount of shrimp, it’s about 7-8 middle-sized shrimps. It’s enough to emphasize the dish’s taste but not too much to cover all the other flavors of the dish.

How to defrost shrimp for pasta

I recommend these two ways to defrost shrimp that ensure avoiding shrimp becoming rubbery:

  1. Refrigerator Thawing: Place the frozen shrimp in a bowl or on a plate and cover it with plastic wrap. Place the bowl or plate in the refrigerator for several hours, or overnight, until the shrimp has fully thawed.
  2. Cold Water Thawing: Place the frozen shrimp in a resealable plastic bag, removing as much air as possible. Submerge the bag in cold water, changing the water every 30 minutes until the shrimp has thawed, which usually takes about 20-30 minutes.

Let’s prepare the shrimp. Place defrosted shrimp into a bowl, and season them with salt, pepper, chili flakes, paprika and olive oil. Set aside.

Let’s cook pasta. Place a pot on high heat, add water, and settle it to a boil. When the water starts boiling, add a pinch of salt and pasta. I chose linguine. However, any long pasta will be suitable, e.x. Spaghetti or Tagliatelli. Decrease the heat to medium and cook pasta till al dente according to pasta package instructions.

Place a pan on medium heat, and saute shrimp for about 2 mins on each side, so they got pink. Then take the shrimp out of the pan and set aside.
